Niagara press refuses to press Liberal Jim Bradley for response to lousy LHIN report

It's funny how the St.Catharines Standard Bradley Bootlicker had absolutley no coverage of the Niagara LHIN's pathetic healthcare performance, as was outlined in a Feb.19, 2013 Hamilton Spectator story.

The Spectator story noted that "during the most-recently reported quarter, the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant LHIN registered either the second-worst or third-worst performance out of 14 LHINs in each of the three categories".

Isn't it funny that, say, the Standard's Don Fraser wasn't immediately sent out in the rain on his waterskis to interview Niagara's Liberal healthcare-monopoly-pushing-hack, Ole Jim Bradley, for his comments on his Liberal health-care monopoly's abysmal record!

Isn't that what would have happened, had some Conservative been our local MPP?! Sure it would have!!

If it was anyone else but Ole Liberal Jimmy, Wendy Metcalfe's self-appointed laughable wrong-righters would have been falling over themselves to ambush the politician and demand answers!!

But, hey - this is Ole Liberal stalwart MPP Jim Bradley were talkin' 'bout, after all: Niagara's local press is loathe to ask their BestBoyJim anything, especially if it means it might make Ole Buddy Jimmy look bad.

Niagara's pathetic excuse for reporting, known as the St.Catharines Standard, ignored the LHIN report!!

How many days will it take for the Standard to contact their buddy Bradley for answers??! [nothing yet, by Feb.25...!!]

What, are Standard staffers holding marathon midnight meetings, trying desperately to craft and assemble a puffball question or two, sanitized enough so as not to only make Ole Jimmy look good even in these circumstances, but to create the impression that Ole Monopolist Jimmy really has nothing whatsoever to do with this - with any of it!!

• At Greater Niagara General Hospital, one in 10 ER patients eventually admitted to a hospital bed waited at least 51 hours in the emergency department

or why

• At St. Catharines General, one in 10 high-acuity patients spent at least 10 hours in the ER.

It is for the best that no one from the St.Catharines Standard demand health care accountability and answers from Liberal monopolists such as Jim Bradley! (Just as it was for the best that the disgusting St.Catharines Standard protected their buddy Jim Bradley and did not bother to pursue him, as dozens of Niagara C. diff patients were dying in Bradley's local Liberal health monopoly!!)

Gosh; over a period of what - two decades? - the Standard has never even been able to bring itself to ask Liberal GreenFear-monger and Environment Minister Jim Bradley for his definitive proof that green bolshevism cures AGW!!

Media fails to examine McGuinty's Liberal climate junk-science

Interesting to see Greg Van Moorsel's Oct.23, 2012 article in the St.Catharines Standard, where he talks about the Liberals' energy mess, yet - amazingly - Moorsel doesn't bother to specifically mention Ontario's Liberal Environment Minister Jim Bradley, nor Bradley's personal political complicity in Ontario's costly Liberal junk-science-based green energy failures - which was ostensibly the subject of Moorsel's article!

Moorsel somehow mentioned there being "hold-out Grits" in Kingston, in Windsor, and in London - but totally "forgot" to mention the green Grit bolshevik hold-out in Niagara, St.Catharines Liberal GreenFear-pusher MPP Jim Bradley! [Bradley? Huh...? Whaaaa...? Waz Ole Jimmer thare gots ta do wid any'o'dis??]

Moorsel should specifically ask Jim Bradley about the Lake Vostok climate-lies, posted at the base of Toronto's CNE Exhibition wind-turbine. Let's see Enviro Jimmy's specific answer to that propaganda.

Moorsel should also ask Jim Bradley for Bradley's specific "evidence" about 'man made Co2 causing global-warming', because, if Moorsel doesn't get the green goods from Ontario's GreenFear-spreader Bradley, then Moorsel is spinning crap himself. (...like when Moorsel goes on about "dirty coal" (a well-worn Liberal line) and 'GHG emissions' - which are mutually exclusive issues! It would be nice if the Niagara media would actually start some real investigative journalism, detailing the McGuinty Liberals' crass climate lies and resultant political opportunism, as seen from a local perspective ....(not to mention having the media examine their own willing complicity in propagating the 'Planet-is-going-to-be-destroyed' climate-doom-scenario)

When will Ontario's press make the link between McGuinty' green energy fiasco and Liberal Jim Bradley's GreenFear ideology?

In "McGuinty exit reflects reckless rule" (St.Catharines Standard, Oct.20, 2012, pg.10) Jim Merriam wrote about how "green energy was the "in" thing, and the Grits didn't have Clue No.1 what a screw-up the Green Energy Act would be."

Well, that's not at all true: McGuinty's Liberals certainly and plainly DID know that their GreenFear policies were a sham, and, what's worse, McGuinty and Liberal hacks such as MPP Jim Bradley, DID NOT CARE!

Of course McGuinty's climatalarmist Liberals knew that their green activism was pie in the sky horseshit...

 (...and it still is; yet, the same 'green is in' crap is still being unquestioningly peddled in the St.Catharines Standard, in a laughable David Suzuki column directly below Merriam's column, on the same page 10 of the Oct.20, 2012 Standard!)

McGuinty's abandonment of Caledonia was a political template for subsequent Liberal C.difficile negligence

McGuinty's abandonment of Caledonia is overshadowed by McGuinty's deadly abandonment of Ontario's C. difficile patients

Further to this earlier post here...

The National Post carried a good editorial "Dalton McGuinty - successful politician, failed leader" (Oct.16, 2012), about Dalton McGuinty's resignation, which McGuinty had announced late in the day on Oct.15.

The Post's editorial nicely summarized McGuinty's years of lies and obfuscation, concluding that the worst thing that Dalton did was abandon the people of Caledonia.

It was no doubt a disgrace - an utter disgusting disgrace, what the cowardly McGuinty did (as a practising "Liberal", practicing in a supposedly-"just society") to the people of Caledonia, to Ontarians, and to the notion of rule of law.

However, I don't think Caledonia was on the same level of deceit, callousness and negligence, when compared to how McGuinty's lies in 2008 about Ontario's C.diff crisis 'being under control' (when it clearly wasn't) directly precipitated the 2011 C.diff outbreak in Niagara, which killed at least three dozen patients.

What McGuinty did in Caledonia (which came to a head in 2006) was bereft of leadership, and morally vacuous; but what McGuinty later did in propagating his C.diff lies...
 (...to hide his health-monopoly from a public inquiry in 2008 - a parallel tactic with the similar scenario in Oct. 2012: run, hide, and buy time when the flashlight is about to be shone on McGuinty's despotic, secretive activities!)
...was criminal, resulting in death.

McGuinty, in 2008, had an obligation - as the unapologetic head-cheerleader of a despotic political ideology which forced a single-payer state-run health monopoly upon Ontarians - to ensure that his state-run monopoly was publicly scrutinized, especially when hundreds of Ontarians had ALREADY died in C.difficile outbreaks throughout the province, under McGuinty's and George Smitherman's watch.

McGuinty, in 2008, personally perpetrated the lie that his Liberal-run health monopoly did NOT need any public scrutiny or inquiry into the C.diff deaths, claiming (falsely) that everything was under control, that the Liberals and their monopolist health organization knew all there was to know about C. difficile, so no troublesome inquiries were needed.

This was what Dalton McGuinty, Ontario's Premier Liberal liar, told us in 2008. This was way worse than what McGuinty did in Caledonia: this led to deaths in Niagara.

If the National Post had remembered McGuinty's 2008 C.difficile lies, then the Post would have been able to add a new and profound perspective to the significance of what happened in Caledonia: it was in Caledonia that McGuinty learned that he could act as a despot; where he learned that there were no serious repercussions to his (non)actions/decisions; where he learned that he would not be held to account for the repercussions of his "policies".

Caledonia crystallized in McGuinty's mind the reality that he and his Liberals could dismiss, lie to, and steam-roller over the people of Ontario, time and time again, fiasco after FLICKING fiasco.

Caledonia was a precursor which emboldened disgusting Dalton's political pathology, later helping this serial liar to non-chalantly create secret G20 laws, or condemn future patients to death, in order to protect his morally-bankrupt health-monopoly from scrutiny.

McGuinty should have been stopped and held to account at Caledonia.

Ontarians let McGuinty get away with it, for far too long.

And sadly, the people of Niagara still let Liberal MPP's Jim Bradley and Kim Craitor get away with it, as well.

McGuinty should resign over Liberal election fraud

Bob Bruton wrote in "Liberals have gone too far this time" (Barrie Examiner, Jul.18, 2012):

There’s no two ways about it; the Ontario government’s decision to cancel a controversial Mississauga power plant last fall in the middle of a provincial election campaign fails the smell test.
Certainly it stinks because Ontario taxpayers are on the hook for the $190-million cost. It’s no consolation that electricity ratepayers won’t pay through their hydro bills, but taxpayers will. The same wallets shrink.
But it should be no less irksome that the cancellation has political undertones. There’s little doubt it helped four Liberal candidates in Mississauga and Etobicoke win their seats in the Oct. 6 election.
And as Ontario voters know, Premier Dalton McGuinty needed every seat he could get last fall — falling one MPP short of a majority government.
What’s also known is that Etobicoke and Mississauga residents strongly opposed the power plant, named Greenfield South, to be located just northwest of Sherway Gardens. Instead it’s going to the Sarnia area.
But should our governments be making multimillion-dollar decisions based on political strategy? And in the middle of an election campaign?
Dwight Duncan, Ontario’s finance minister, has said the power plant decision was made by the government — not the Liberal campaign.
That doesn’t wash, however, since the same person — McGuinty — ran both shows at the time. Duncan noted the decision to cancel the power plant was made by the premier.
And McGuinty has accepted this responsibility, also saying he made it as head of the Ontario government.
But what he hasn’t explained is the timing, or does he expect Ontarians to believe it was just coincidental?
It’s worth noting that this $190-million decision was made by a government that’s now struggling to control a $15-billion deficit.
McGuinty and company are fighting with Ontario doctors, teachers and just about every other group of public employees unhappy with provincial cutbacks.
Yet there’s $190 million to relocate a power plant.
There was also concern this week when the total cost was increased by $10 million, a payment to stop construction (the total costs is still $190 million).
New Democrats have asked Ontario Auditor General Jim McCarter to investigate.
The NDP also noted that Eastern Power, a Greenfield South affiliate, had contributed money to the Liberals in recent years.
Tory leader Tim Hudak, no doubt prompted by Watergate’s 40th anniversary, wondered if the $10 million wasn’t hush money.
He also said something about the original $180 million only being the tip of the iceberg, but didn’t elaborate.
What Hudak might have said is that it’s no wonder any government which appears to be so fiscally cavalier with $190 million is $15 billion in the hole.
It also undermines the Liberal argument that it doesn’t have the money to afford raises for civil servants, or not to cut the costs of some medical procedures, or freeze the pay grid for Ontario teachers.
McGuinty and the Liberals face a tough enough task convincing residents of this province that their austerity measures are necessary, that money is tight, and that it will take a few years to balance the budget without spending $190 million — arguably just to help four MPPs win their seats last fall.
It’s been said that political parties will do what’s necessary to get elected, then to stay elected.
But it looks like the Liberals went too far this time, and the smell won’t go away.

Carefully note (as highlighted in red in Bruton's above story, dated July 18, 2012) that Dwight Duncan had said that it was "the government" - NOT THE LIBERAL CAMPAIGN - which decided to cancel the Mississauga gas plant, in the middle of the election! (Duncan also had made the same claim in the Jul.16, 2012 Toronto Star, saying that it was the government, not the Liberal Party, which decided to cancel the gas plant back on Sept.24, 2011.)

Note also, that just about a week or so ago, on a Newstalk Toronto 1010 interview with Liberal campaign chair Greg Sorbara, that Sorbara was also glibly spreading that same line, sticking to the story that the cancellation had nothing to do with the Liberal Party or the provincial election; that it was simply a government decision!
Sorbara at that time was acting as clean-up man for Chris Bentley, who had several days earlier said (and then immediately recanted!) that the cancellation was NOT made by "the government", but, BY THE ONTARIO LIBERAL PARTY, as an election ploy! (as reported by the Toronto Star on July 11, 2012)
By the beginning of August 2012, Sorbara resigned as MPP - but, he still continued on as Liberal campaign chair!! Sorbara will always be remembered for bringing in Liar McGuinty's despised Ontario Liberal Health Tax.

Which all brings us to today, around noon, July 19, 2012 - and the Liberal's story changed yet again (even since Bruton's story appeared yesterday): now Dwight Duncan has finally admitted that the cancellation of the Mississauga gas plant was NOT a "government decision" after all, but a crass political campaign decision made BY THE ONTARIO LIBERAL PARTY!!! (as Bentley had indeed earlier first honestly acknowledged, before changing his original story into a lie!)

40 C. difficile patients dead in continuing Niagara outbreak

As was reported by Richard Hutton...
(under the headline "Second C.diff death at GNGH", published in the Jan.11, 2012 printed edition of  Niagara This Week; the same story also appeared dated Jan.6, 2012 on NTW's web version)
...there have now been a total of two C. difficile deaths in Niagara's second outbreak, in addition to the 38 C.diff deaths which occurred in the first outbreak.

...[Note: as I had previouly written about here, the Dec.28, 2011 St.Catharines Standard had reported that 37 patients had died during the first outbreak; this differs from Niagara This Week's  Jan.11, 2012 report that 38 had died during the first outbreak. What's that discrepancy all about?
Niagara's first C.difficile outbreak was declared on May 28, 2011, and lasted for 5 months, being declared over on Oct.24, 2011, with 37 (or 38?) dead.
Niagara's second C.diff outbreak was declared on Dec.8, 2011; on Dec.20, 2011, the first patient (of this second Niagara C.diff outbreak) died.]...

So: 40 Niagara patients are dead of a disease...

This article, "New health rule angers premiers" (National Post, Dec.20, 2011), noted some reactions by delegates at the federal-provincial health-transfer-payment talks:

"This is not fair, it is unCanadian," said Manitoba Finance Minister Stan Struthers. "It is not so much creating wealth as it redistributing wealth, and we are redistributing wealth from some of provinces who have a very limited capacity, to some of the richest provinces."
Mr. Struthers called the move "a slap in the face" by Ottawa.

Ontario Finance Minister Dwight Duncan, the most outspoken critic of the proposals so far, said the new formula will cost his province $400-million in health funding. "It means less access to quality health care, from sea to sea to sea, in French and English, in Ontario, Quebec and all of these provinces," he said.
"This, in my view, destabilizes the federation to some extent and will make it still more difficult for us to provide the basic services we're required to and at the same time get back to balanced [budgets]."
He took particular issue with how Mr. Flaherty "put the document in front of us and said, 'This is how it is going to be.' And that's just no way to do business."

"Premier Dalton McGuinty couldn't escape lingering questions about the G20 summit, during a pre-campaign stop Tuesday in St Catharines.

McGuinty was there to tour the General Motors plant, flanked by local MPP and provincial safety minister Jim Bradley.
He defended his government's decision to take a direct role in trying to save the province's auto industry, saying that GM has already paid off its loan. He also noted that Ontario's manufacturing sector was particularly hard hit during the economic downturn.
McGuinty was also asked about the demand for a public inquiry, into the secret law governing police powers during last year's G20 summit in Toronto.
He admits his government should have done a better job communicating the law they passed - but says that's all he's responsible for.
"We had a particular connection with this, involving a particular law. We have asked a highly regarded statesman to review that for us and provide us with specific recommendations; we have received those recommendations. We are adopting those wholeheartedly and that's our connection with the G20."
"I have always said if there is an inquiry to be called it is up to the prime minister. It was his G20, it was his invitation, it was his choice to bring it to Toronto, it was his police predominantly that ran the security for this major undertaking "
Most of the people arrested during the G20 weekend were released without charge, or had the charges dropped.
Civil liberty groups have been demanding a public inquiry since shortly after the summit."

McGuinty's secretive Liberal 'closed government'

Len Greenberg reported in "Secrecy causing problems for Ontario government: ombudsman" (Ottawa Citizen, Jun.21, 2011):

"A spate of cover-ups in Ontario jails is raising red flags for the provincial ombudsman.
Andre Marin says his office has received a number of complaints surrounding use-of-force incidents by guards where there is no corresponding report or where pages are missing from reports.
“This is not limited to one or two institutions,” Marin said at a news conference Tuesday during which he presented his annual report. “It appears to be something that’s happening out there. And it’s giving me a tremendous amount of concern.”
Marin says jailhouse complaints to his office in the past have typically been about issues like “wilted lettuce” and “expired bread.” This past year a number of serious complaints were filed that pointed to a “troubling” pattern, Marin said.
They include several episodes where guards did not file reports after using force on inmates. Those incidents were then covered up. At one jail, a log book page matching the date of the assault had disappeared. At another, the written report conflicted with video evidence. In a third case, investigators were told an exculpatory health report did not exist when they asked to view it.
“We’re very close to launching a special investigation concerning this area,” Marin said. “Use of force used to be documented, it used to be investigated. And unfortunately we’ve found some serious lapses in the system.”
The Family Responsibility Office, the agency responsible for monitoring court-ordered child and spousal support payments, was the most contentious government arm in 2010-11, according to the report. It received 716 complaints in total. The Ontario disability support program, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, Hydro One and driver licensing followed in number of complaints.
Marin also used the occasion of his annual report to call on the government to allow his office into Children’s Aid Societies, which consume $1.4 billion in public funds and deal with society’s most vulnerable people and yet are subject to no public oversight.
“We’re the only province in Canada that doesn’t do that,” he said. “Something is wrong here.”
Marin also chided the government for its secrecy instead of embracing proactive disclosure.
“Today the expectation is that information from the government should be available in real time, without asking. Public services should be open to the public, by definition and by default,” he said.
He said the thread that runs through his cases – which include investigations into secretive property tax assessments, insider wins at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation and, most recently, a secretive G20 law that led to “massive violation of civil rights” – is “closed government”.

At least one reporter, CP's Keith Leslie , gave us an overview on this obvious trend of Liberal secrecy and duplicity which has become the hallmark of Dalton McGuinty's scumbag Ontario government: 

"Critics are accusing Ontario's Liberals of becoming more secretive, despite their claims of making the government more open and transparent.
Liberals on the finance committee used their majority Thursday to give hospitals an exemption from the freedom of information law for data on "quality of care," an exemption they buried deep in the 2011 provincial budget.
The Ontario Health Coalition, a patient advocacy group, said the Liberals "snuck" a clause into the budget that had nothing to do with finances, but amounts to a "blanket FOI exemption" for hospitals.
"We’re calling it the hospital secrecy clause," said the coalition's Natalie Mehra. "It really is a very uneven attempt to protect hospitals from having to disclose embarrassing information to the public."
However, Health Minister Deb Matthews said it was a "very narrow" exemption so health care professionals and other hospital staff can frankly discuss problems without concerns the information will become public. The Liberals are the first to extend freedom of information rules to cover hospitals, she added.
"We did not go as far as the Ontario Hospital Association and the Ontario Medical Association wanted us to go, which was a full exclusion where you can’t even request the information," said Matthews.
The Progressive Conservatives and New Democrats also blasted the Liberals for hiding a clause in the budget that they claimed "promoted a secretive approach to health care," and said it was only one example of the government's penchant for secrecy.
The Liberals were also under fire Thursday for a secret deal giving the Ontario Public Service Employees Union a one per cent wage hike next year on top of the two per cent increase in their contract.
"There are a lot of secret deals here, and I think this is just the tip of the iceberg," said Opposition critic Peter O'Toole.
The deal to give the 38,000 union members an extra one per cent without informing the public was reached in 2008, but only came to light this week at a labour board hearing.
"It was a side letter and government does need the ability to bargain (in private) because once you do it in public your position is compromised," said Finance Minister Dwight Duncan.
Last week, former Ontario chief justice Roy McMurtry criticized the Liberals for passing a secret law governing police powers during the G20 summit in Toronto, which he said was so vague it was wide open to abuse.
"The Public Works Protection Act raises issues regarding the liberty and security of the person in providing for warrantless searches and stopping for identification," McMurtry wrote in his report. "(The) potential for abuse is beyond troubling, to say the least."
The Liberals refuse to apologize for passing the G20 law in secret, and have said only that they could have done a better job informing the public about the exact nature of the powers they granted the 20,000 officers who patrolled Toronto during the summit.
More than 1,100 people were arrested and detained during the G20 weekend after what Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin said was a "premeditated, conscious decision'' by the Liberals to keep the extra police powers secret from the public.
The Opposition is still fuming over what they call the Liberals' secret $7-billion green energy deal with Korean giant Samsung.
Most of the Samsung deal has been made public, said Energy Minister Brad Duguid, except for "commercially sensitive" sections that will be released after Samsung builds new plants in Ontario to manufacture components for green energy projects.
The NDP also pointed out the Liberals were caught again this year hiding high salaries of some top level bureaucrats in the budgets of local hospitals instead of in the Ministry of Health budget. The Liberals had promised to fix that, but instead published the salaries in two different areas of the sunshine list of public sector people paid over $100,000.
"For a government that likes to crow about transparency and accountability, we’ve seen exactly the opposite," said NDP Leader Andrea Horwath. "Whether it’s the secret G20 law, whether it’s the refusal to disclose severance packages of CEOs on the sunshine list, whether it’s the FOI process for hospitals, the Samsung deal, the list goes on and on and on."
Opposition Leader Tim Hudak echoed Horwath's concerns.
"This is clearly a government that has been around too long and is now protecting itself rather than protecting the taxpayers who pay the bills," said Hudak."

McGuinty's Liberal scumbags hide from G20 responsibility

Antonella Artuso wrote in  "Province blames feds about G20 law" (Toronto Sun, Apr.28, 2011):

"Ontario is pointing the finger at the federal Conservatives following the release of a second damning report on its own secret G20 law.

Community Safety Minister Jim Bradley rebuffed calls for a provincial inquiry, arguing it wasn’t Ontario’s idea to hold the G20 Summit in downtown Toronto last June.

“This was a federally-initiated conference; this was a federally-initiated security operation,” Bradley said Thursday. “I didn’t ask that it be placed in downtown Toronto. I don’t know who did. The federal government insisted it be there.”

Bradley denied suggestions he might be inserting himself into the federal election campaign with his comments, saying that was certainly not his intention.

The minister formally released Thursday the report of former Chief Justice Roy McMurtry, who was asked by the Dalton McGuinty government to review the Public Works Protection Act (PWPA), a War Measures bill used by police to protect the security perimeter at the summit.

The public only found out the bill had been used to create a barrier around the downtown core after police began stopping, searching and even arresting citizens under its powers.

McMurtry says the Act should be repealed.

“The vagueness of the PWPA permits it to be used in situations when it is arguably not necessary and potentially abusive,” McMurtry reports. “In my view, the PWPA has been used for purposes beyond its original intent.”

Last December, Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin said the province’s PWPA essentially placed Torontonians under martial law over the weekend the city hosted world leaders.

Bradley said his government would introduce legislation to axe the legislation if re-elected in October.

Both the Tory and NDP opposition continued to call for more transparency on why the government chose to enact the legislation.

McMurtry’s report noted Ontario originally looked to Ottawa for more police powers, but was told officers had “sufficient” authority to deal with the G20 Summit.

“The Federal Deputy Minister was clear that in his view the police had sufficient authority at common law and in statute to secure these conferences,” the report says. “Similarly, the OPP were of the view that it was not necessary for the police forces to have any additional police powers, other than those already conferred by virtue of common law and statute...in order to secure the interdiction zones for the Summits.”

The PWPA was introduced in 1939 to protect the province’s hydro electric facilities from Nazi saboteurs, and more recently to permit courtroom searches and enable security at Ontario Power Generation’s power plants."

If Iggy needs to know why his federal Liberals got creamed in Ontario, he should look no further than the smug disaster that has unfolded in Liberal Ontario under McGuinty. McGuinty's Liberal lies and incompetence have telegraphed to the federal ranks. Iggy can thank McGuinty and Dwight Duncan for all their "help" in making "Liberal" a "trustworthy" brand.

Some facts to temper Ignatieff's and Gill's Liberal rhetoric

We have seen Iggy, the Liberal carpetbagger, and Andrew Gill campaigning together in Niagara, trying out their talking points. Carmen Chai examines some of this Liberal rhetoric in "The Gritty Reality":

"On Monday, Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff accused the Conservatives of being the highest-spending, most wasteful government in history, referring to a list of expenses from stealth fighter jets to the G8/G20 summits last summer. How thrifty were the Liberals when they called the shots?

- Corporate tax cuts

The accusation:
Ignatieff says the Conservatives' cuts to corporate taxes will drain the government of billions in annual revenue.

The facts:
The current corporate tax rate fell to 16.5 per cent, effective Jan. 1, 2011. The Liberals would raise it back to 18 per cent, last year's level. Based on their calculations, that would generate $6 billion annually.
Under Jean Chretien's Liberal government from 1993 to 2003, the corporate tax rate sat at 28 per cent. By 2003, the Liberals had brought those tax rates down to about 23 per cent.
The Canada Revenue Agency says tax rates were 19.5 per cent in 2008 under Prime Minister Stephen Harper and slowly decreased. The Tories have said corporate tax rates will be reduced to 15 per cent by 2012; the Liberals say they will not do this.
But Stephane Dion, who led the federal Liberals' 2008 campaign, pledged to cut corporate taxes below the 18.5 per cent rate that the Conservatives proposed.
Dion argued that lower corporate tax rates were "powerful" weapons in helping with investing, and job creation.

- The cost of international summits

The accusation:
Ignatieff points to the $1-billion price tag for 72 hours of G8/G20 meetings last summer and says he would have held both summits in the Huntsville, Ont., region and saved millions.

The facts:
Officials decided the region couldn't house world delegates and international media. So the G20 summit, in Toronto, ended up costing $679 million. About $574.6 million was spent on security.
Canada shelled out a lot more, however, than other countries that have hosted similar summits. The 2009 G20 summit, for example, set the United Kingdom back $20 million, with another $28.6 million spent on security, according to research out of the University of Toronto.
In a July 2010 report, the U of T researchers say that between $129 million and $200 million was spent on Canada's 2002 G8 summit in Kananaskis, Alta.

- Fighter jets

The accusation:
Ignatieff says the Liberals would cancel a contract for 65 F-35 stealth fighter jets, instead spending $16 billion on health care.

The facts:
Costs of the program vary widely, with the parliamentary budget officer using a figure closer to $30 billion for the jets.
The Tories, however, say the deal not only helps the Canadian Forces, but contributes to the economy. Joining the U.S.-led Joint Strike Fighter program has provided Canadian companies with access to $12 billion in potential work over a 40-year period, they argue.
The Liberals significantly scaled back military spending in the 1990s to balance the books, but the decision angered U.S. officials who complained that Canada wasn't doing enough to help fight terrorism and protect North America.

- Government spending

The accusation:
Ignatieff says the government is out of control, because federal spending under Stephen Harper grew by 18 per cent in his first three years as prime minister.

The facts:
Government reports on fiscal spending show that expenses under the Harper government jumped from $222.2 billion in the 2006-07 year to $274.2 billion in 2009-10 — an 18.9 per cent increase. During Jean Chretien's first three years as prime minister, spending rose a modest 2.39 per cent, from $162.4 billion in 1992-93 to $170.2 billion in 1995-96. In 1996-1997, expenses were slashed to $158.6 billion from $170.2 billion the fiscal year before.

- PMO spending

The accusation:
The Liberals point to an "explosion" in ministers' and the prime minister's office budgets under Harper.

The facts:
The annual cost of Harper's office was nearly $10 million in 2009-2010, a 30 per cent jump over the previous two years. In 2009-10, the cost to run Harper's office was $9.89 million — compared to 8.1 million the previous year and $7.5 million in 2007-08. Documents tabled in Parliament show the entire Conservative cabinet's costs had increased by 16 per cent since 2007-08, when records of such expenses were first documented.
However, figures on government spending when the Liberals were in power aren't published, so there's no point of comparison. It was the Tories' accountability legislation that made it possible to track office spending."

Furthermore, it is really difficult to believe Iggy's sudden claim that he won't pursue a coalition in the future. That's an utter crock. With Ipsos putting the Conservatives at 43% support, the Grits 24% and the socialists at 16%, Iggy's best chance of power is through a coalition!
The Liberal and NDP pre-election charade will be to pretend that they are out to "win" an election as 'independent' parties; the reality is that with their existing combined 24%+16%, they are simply running to win a coalition, to take over government!!! [There's' your "Red Door" BACK DOOR analogy right back in yer face, Iggula]
The Cobblitionists' combined 40% vs. the Conservatives 43% makes Iggy's timing of this election call understandable - these are competitive numbers for them when seen this way: the upside is that the Libs could obtain a minority, being supported by Dippers (yeah, yeah, Ole Layton the "King Maker"...) and a separatist or two. So, that's the upside for Iggy, for pretending there is "no coalition"! The downside for Iggy is that the Conservatives obtain another minority, causing Iggy to do the whole Stephane Dion thing all over again - with Layton and a separatist or two!!
At that time, Iggy'll conveniently come up with a new nuance rationalizing his newly-changed-stance. Iggy'll tell us that a coalition, will... ahem... become 'a necessity', y'see, to 'save Canada from Harper' (or some such drivel) and that  'although we thought and said differently in March of 2011, in May 2011, things have changed, and so, we are 'forced' to enter into this coalition'... blah... blah...blah... y'see, how easy it will be for Iggy to do this?
The losers can get a win-win ! It's just that for the time being - until the election is over! - Iggy's gotta pretend that there's NO coalition! This would simply be a redux of Dion's 2008 gambit. The thing Layton and Iggy have learned this time around is to keep Duceppe out of it as long as possible.
We've seen a lot of Liberal liars; Iggy won't be the last to say one thing and do another,
We had the lying scumbag Dalton Pinocchio McGuinty in Ontario, with his 'I won't raise taxes' bald faced lies. Slimy Chretien with his GST lies and his free trade lies. Trudeau with his wage and price control lies. Even Stephane Dion was telling Canadians during the 2008 election that they couldn't have a coalition with the NDP; then, right after the election, lo and behold, Canadians found out the opposition had been contemplating coalition alliances as far back as the summer of 2008.
Trusting Ignatieff is just a waste of time. If Iggy and Layton want to merge their parties, and run under such a banner, then fine; but to carry on this subterfuge of  under-the-table alliances and shared-but-not-spoken interests while also pretending to be running as 'independents', is a charade.
An honest Iggy would have said - correctly - that the coalition option is always there in our parliamentary system (at a political price, though...); and that, he would consider it if conditions warranted it. (...and Dion's conditions included the Bloc...)
But, for Iggy to now outright deny any coalition, thereby boxing himself in after the election, is patently idiotic, and truly unbelievable, deservedly leaving Iggy open to yet more flip-flop-liar ridicule down the road.
This all shows that professor Ignatieff is not ready for prime-time and is in way over his head; his theoretical Liberalism doesn't resonate. The only way for Canada to move forward is with a Conservative majority, not another costly minority fiasco-in-the-making. This would give us stability, and pave the way for the necessary political housecleaning that obviously needs to happen in our federal dysfunctional parties.
The Liberals, under professor Ignatieff's tutelage, clearly still have not truly understood their post-Chretien lessons. The Libs 'time-for-reflection-in-the-political-wilderness' has not yielded any new-found purpose nor promise.

Why is no-one asking what Liberal Jim Bradley has to hide?

The National Post's Mar.1, 2011 editorial stated that it's "Time for a G20 inquiry":

   "Some of the allegations raised on Monday by the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) and the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) border on wacky conspiracy theories. In their report on police handling of the G20 protests last June in Toronto, for instance, the two organizations imply that police and firefighters may have permitted vandalism to occur in order to give officers an excuse for a violent crackdown on protestors.
   Nevertheless, enough real suspicion surrounds police behaviour to justify a joint, public federal-provincial inquiry into the incidents of alleged brutality during the international summit last June 26 and 27.
The CCLA and NUPGE are not alone in insisting that the arrest of 1,100 people at last summer’s protests amounted to — in their words — a “serious violation of fundamental rights and freedoms.” Last December, Ontario ombudsman André Marin concluded that police actions outside the G20 gathering constituted “the most massive compromise of civil liberties in Canadian history.”
   We might put forward Pierre Trudeau’s invocation of the War Measures Act during the October Crisis of 1970 as a much greater breach. Still, we take Mr. Marin’s point, and that of the CCLA and NUPGE. Police tactics at the G20 so demonstrably exceeded the threat posed by protestors that a comprehensive public investigation is warranted.
   The new report from the CCLA and NUPGE, entitled Breach of the Peace, claims that rather than a few dozen officers removing their name bars to prevent being identified while using force to subdue protestors, the total was actually in the hundreds. Who told them to employ this trick? Was it senior officers on the ground or did the call come from higher up; Toronto’s chief of police, senior Mounties or perhaps even politicians in the Ontario or federal government?
   The report argues, with justification, that overall police strategy could not have been devised by frontline officers. So who told them to round up protestors, some in advance of the protestors even committing any acts of violence or vandalism? Who ordered officers to hold protestors and journalists (including two working for this newspaper) for hours — occasionally in inhumane conditions and without medical treatment?
   Not all protestors were innocent angels. As at previous G8/G20 and World Trade Organization summits, cadres of professional agitators intentionally smashed windows and spread mayhem. Torontonians were shocked by images of broken glass littering their downtown; and in the immediate aftermath of the fracas, they were grateful that police were on hand to prevent yet more violence. Still, the presence of several hundred hard-core “Black Bloc” troublemakers in Toronto did not give police license to start cracking the heads of any vocal anti-globalization youth with a placard and an attitude.
   A public inquiry, of the sort that G20 activists have been demanding since 2010, are expensive. And they often provide far more in the way of spectacle than substance. In the case of what happened in Toronto last year, moreover, such an inquiry would overlap with various internal reviews already underway. Indeed, this was the reason that Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty offered on Monday when he affirmed that there would be no public inquiry into police actions at the G20.
   But we believe Mr. McGuinty should reconsider: If nothing else, a public inquiry might — given the proper mandate — help police and security bureaucrats devise better methods to distinguish between real threats to public safety and garden-variety demonstrators at future summits. In an ideal world, police would be able to learn such lessons based on their own internal investigations. But so far, all signs from the Toronto police are that the organization is more concerned with circling the wagons and protecting its own than getting to the truth of what happened last June.
   No doubt, many activists would use such an inquiry as a platform to criticize the police in scathing terms. But holding our police to account is an exercise in which all Canadians have an interest — especially those conservatives who embrace the principles of limited government and civil liberties. It is on this basis that we endorse the call for a G20 public inquiry."

As SunMedia's Bryn Weese reported on Mar.1, 2011, even federal Liberal MP Martha Hall Findlay is asking for an inquiry into Dalton's secret law/police-state actions:

"Liberal MP Martha Hall Findlay is suspicious of any government that rejects calls for a public inquiry into alleged abuses of power by police during the protests at the G20 summit in Toronto last summer.
So what does Dalton McGuinty have to hide?
On Monday, Ontario Liberal Premier McGuinty shrugged off calls for that public inquiry being made by Findlay herself and others in Ottawa on the same day.
McGuinty said there are others reviews looking into the matter.
"I'm going to let the reviews speak to that," he said.
Unaware that McGuinty had spoken on the matter, Hall Findlay accused any government of rejecting calls for a public inquiry as having something to hide.
"If you're unwilling to have a public inquiry on something that, to me, is so fundamental to our democracy and our ability to speak out and to protest peacefully, then my question is what is it that you don't want to come to light," Hall Findlay said. Later at Monday's press conference, she reiterated her concerns.
"If any government is unwilling to hold a public inquiry, I think our first question has to be, 'what is it that you don't want to be revealed?'" she said.
New Democrat Olivia Chow, who also wants a public inquiry into police actions around the G20, said the Liberal position on this is bizarre, but not surprising.
"I'm used to the Liberals flip-flopping every which way on any number of issues on the same day and at different levels of government," Chow said. "They can't be trusted."
In total, some 1,100 people were arrested during the weekend-long summit in June, some at gunpoint during a raid on sleeping students in a University of Toronto gymnasium.
One police officer is facing charges related to his actions during the protests, but critics argue the police were ordered to crack down on civil rights.
"The scale of civil rights violations goes beyond the actions of a few misbehaving police officers," said Nathalie Des Rosiers with the Canadian Civil Liberties Association. On Monday, her group released a report of eyewitness accounts from the protests based of three days of public hearings the CCLA held last November.
A government official said the Conservatives are "proud" of how police handled the protesters and kept everyone safe.
"Our front line police officers were able to protect the safety of Canadians, delegates and visitors to the City of Toronto and the Town of Huntsville, working in what were exceptionally difficult circumstances," Chris McCluskey, a spokesman for Public Safety Minister Vic Toews, wrote in an e-mail.
He reiterated the government will not call a public inquiry because there are other channels to lodge complaints against police forces.
"As the minister of public safety has always said, specific bodies exist to handle complaints regarding police conduct and it's appropriate for individuals to direct their concerns to those bodies. The Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP is one such body and we look forward to reviewing the results." "
