Alexander Tatarnic wrote in "Those who made the sacrifice lie in lonely graves in foreign lands", (St. Catharines Standard, Nov.11, 2008):
"Thousands of young Canadian- Ukrainian men and women served in the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War in Hong Kong and Europe. American-Ukrainians also saw action in Europe and in the entire Pacific conflict against Japan.
The young men who made the supreme sacrifice lie in lonely graves in foreign lands, never to see their homeland again."

There is a monument tucked in a garden at the west side of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church in St. Catharines. (below, click photo to enlarge)
This veteran's memorial reads: "In honour of Ukrainian Canadians who served, fought and died in the Canadian Army in the 1st and 2nd World Wars".
