Their July 12, 2010 greenpaganda does a great job of pretending that Jim Bradley, the Liberal liar from St.Catharines, had nothin' whatsoever to do with this new tax - why, the green propagandists wouldn't even dare call this wonderful tax, a tax. Nope - to them and Jim it's a "fee", magically imposed by these Stewardship folks.

Murphy calls out the hypocrisy and the propaganda associated with the purveyors of "green" and "eco" - an observation that not only applies to McGuinty, but to his loyal bootlicks throughout Ontario, doing their best to support the Liberal cause in whatever way they can.
Interesting how no-one at the St.Catharines Standard's Jim Bradley Brown-Noser Society has yet bothered asking Jim Bradley to cite and explain exactly which "scientific sources" he had based his global-warming hysteria upon.

Further to my earlier photos, the demolition along Colborne St. continues in Brantford.
Below: as seen on July 10, 2010, the eastern-end of the 1870-built Bellhouse Block (which had been #71 Colborne St.) is now gone. The wall now seen exposed is the west-side wall of what had lastly been Zorba's Restaurant, at 73-75 Colborne St.

Ontario's Premier Liar, Liberal Dalton McGuinty, was taken to task in the National Post's July 9, 2010 editorial, "Ontario's furtive Premier":
"You've got to hand it to Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty. It's not every politician who can break a campaign promise over and over again with impunity -and lately, without voters even noticing.
The promise, of course, was Mr. McGuinty's infamous pledge not to raise taxes. He made it in writing to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation during the 2003 provincial election campaign, with a much-publicized photo-op, and has been busy flouting it ever since.
In 2004, he subjected Ontarians to an annual health tax of up to $900 per family, under the pretext of improving the province's health system. Over the next few years he increased various licensing fees, including those for cars, boats and hunting and fishing. In 2009, he instituted up-front "recycling fees" of up to $13 an item on electronics, and almost $6 per car tire (the highest such fee in North America). In 2010 he introduced the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), which -- because of the way it's being applied -- will add up to $400 in additional to Ontario families' bills every year.
But Mr. McGuinty didn't stop there. On July 1 of this year, the same day the HST went into effect, he quietly imposed an "eco fee" on a host of items, including paint, hairspray, rechargeable batteries, bleaches, detergents, pharmaceutical drugs, natural health products and fire extinguishers. In other words, products you would find in every household in Ontario, and ones most people cannot do without. The new tax even applies to fluorescent light bulbs; ironically, their energy-wasting cousins, incandescent bulbs, are not subject to the levy.
The fee is administered by a government agency, Stewardship Ontario. It is levied against industry "stewards" -- brand owners, first importers, or franchisers -- who are then free to pass it on to retailers, who themselves can pass it on to consumers.
To add insult to injury, Stewardship Ontario is now spending $2.5-million in public money to "educate" taxpayers about the new tax -- after it has quietly become law. As a spokeswoman for the agency told the Toronto Star, "We would rather spend the money [now] to educate people than to [have spent] the money months ahead to say, 'Hey, there's a new eco fee coming.'"
How brazen -- and how indicative of the contempt in which the Ontario government holds its taxpayers. And Ontarians thought all Mr. McGuinty could sneak through Cabinet were new police powers. "

Put another way, it is what governments try to do covertly that speaks to us about their integrity and respect for voters.”
Yeah: read that again - that's straight from the wazoo of Jim Bradley.
Strange how today, the Toronto Star can't seem to find Good Ole Jimmy, the Smug Savant of Secord Dr., to ask how his statements made then reflect on his own Liberal lies and hypocrisy now. Of course, the Star lapped up Jim Bradley's sputum, because they both shared a Harris-hating agenda, and so happily obliged each other.

While it is good to see that Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin's office will be looking into limited-scope aspects of the McGuinty Liberals' G20 'secret-law' fiasco, we should also be asking where the ombudsman's own secret-report into the Niagara Health System has gone.
It was apparently ready for public release early in 2010 - yet has somehow vanished!

Why has ombudsman Marin's report into the Niagara Health System vanished?
Paul Forsyth reported in "Probe NHS, council says", (Niagara This Week, July 8, 2010) that the City of Thorold is joining the Ontario Health Coalition's call "for the province to appoint an investigator to probe the Niagara Health System".
Say what? There was a similar report in NTW on May 20, 2010 by Richard Hutton, here, "Probe NHS, OHC says; Health coalition report also calls on province to ‘disband’ LHINs".
Really, how "non-partisan" does Forsyth think that the OHC is? The OHC is as partisan-left as one can get. This group's aim is to further socialize and bureaucratize Ontario's health care sector. Nowhere have the OHC yellow-shirts supported the idea of de-monopolizing Dalton McGuinty's failing health system; their "solution" is more status-quo statism. Their beef with McGuinty is that he isn't socialist enough for them, as Kim Craitor's strange antics and alliances have shown.
The OHC's Natalie Mehra may claim that the NHS is "deeply distrusted" by Niagara residents, but isn't that mistrust misplaced, and also, a bit contrived? I'd rather trust the NHS than any socialist/Liberal health-care-monopoly pusher.
I'd rather trust the NHS than trust the Liberal political scumbag intermediaries who manipulate it.
I'd trust the people at the NHS over scum such as McGuinty, Craitor, or Bradley, any day.
The 'deep distrust' that any Ontarian might have should not be for their local hospital, but for their hospital's LHIN overseers, and for the LHIN's political puppet-masters, the Liberals who ideologically maintain their failing anti-patient-choice health care monopoly here in Ontario. Of course McGuinty's scumbags have ruined (as I have repeatedly shown, see Liberal Healthcare Duplicity links below) health care in Ontario - but the NDP would have quite conceivably done even worse, if you can imagine that.
The OHC's "solutions" are already an ingrained part of the problem - the problem of a Tommy Douglas socialist-infected health-care monopoly.
Forsyth doesn't quite tell us in his story what kind of "probe" Thorold's asking for.
A probe by whom? Under what conditions and scope?

Has Thorold's mayor asked McGuinty's local Liberal capos Kim Craitor or Jim Bradley about the ALREADY-CALLED-FOR, and now vanished, ombudsman's NHS report?! [Note also that McGuinty's Liberals cancelled their own promise to perform a so-called review of their LHIN monstrosity. The Ombudsman's report (announced in early 2009, and for reasons unknown, still unreleased) was supposed to cover the Niagara/Brantford LHIN and look into how the NHS handled its two McGuinty-forced emergency room closures. The ombudsman cannot investigate the NHS's hospitals directly unless McGuinty's Liberals first appoint a supervisor to take over the hospital system - which still has not happened; I wrote about that here - in 2008!!]
If the ombudsman (for mysterious reasons which McGuinty's secretive government has not revealed) could not publicly investigate and release his report into the NHS, then who can?
In 2009, we also learned that Ontario's Auditor, Jim McCarter, was powerless to probe the LHIN and NHS, as well.
McGuinty's secretive Liberal slimebags have all the investigative angles covered. McGuinty's Liberals are held harmless and protected from the blow-back of their policies.
Perhaps it's best to have a criminal investigation into the hundreds of c. difficile patient-deaths in McGuinty's Liberal-run health-monopoly under George Smitherman; and a criminal trial into how McGuinty's ideological Liberals foisted their single-payer health monopoly onto a trapped populace, and how Ontario patients who had no choice but to trust that McGuinty's authoritarian health-monopoly was safe and properly funded, were deceived and killed. Perhaps we could determine what roles McGuinty and his slew of Liberal monopolist ideologues had in these patient deaths, and determine their individual and collective culpabilities. (see here)
Perhaps jail time for monopoly-pushing Liberals is in order.

The laughable Green Teamsters, over at the St.Catharines Standard (pardon, the Liberal Jim Bradley Fan Club) ran their local eco-paganda piece on July 5, 2010 ("Recycling gets a new cousin: Orange Drop") - with no mention at all about Liberal tax-rapist Jim Bradley's role in this additional post-HST round of tax assaults on the Ontario consumer.
Jim Bradley and his gang of Liberal tax-rapists have violated Ontarians repeatedly, but, reading the latest VanDongenism in the Standard, you'd think Jim Bradley had nothing at all to do with any of this!!
If anyone, why, it's the Stewardship council's fault, right!? (they weren't co-opted, eh?!)
Jim Richards interviewed McGuinty's Liberal environment minister John Gerretsen this afternoon (on CFRB, Jul.8, 2010) about these new "eco-tax fees", and Gerretsen sounded like an absolute incompetent nutbag in attempting to spin out his convoluted explanation.
